Technology

Technology is an integral part of modern society and most children’s daily lives, and can be used to effectively promote early learning and development. At The Hills Pre School, we believe the key to successfully integrating technology in the early childhood classroom is to view technology as just another tool to teach specific skills and concepts. Use of technology is intended to enrich, implement, individualise, differentiate and extend the curriculum.

Most schools have interactive boards/screens in each classroom, which are used as important tools for implementing the curriculum. At The Hills Pre School, we believe it is of great benefit to introduce children to this technology in the pre school setting, so that they are familiar with using it when they encounter interactive boards/screens in their kindergarten classrooms.

Technology should be interactive and open-ended, and should promote discovery learning. Below are some of the key ways we use our interactive screen to enhance learning:

• early literacy and numeracy activities
• interactive music and singing
• shared documentation of learning
• educational games that reinforce intentional teaching,
• creation of group stories (which can then be then printed)
